The Lance was manufactured from 1985 to 1993.

The Lance was introduced in 1985 and was a split-tilt-cab design. The motor was located forward, between the driver and officer, and only the forward half of the cab tilted for access to the motor. A fixed 4-man crew area with a canopy cab was standard. Optionally, this could be re-configured in numerous ways. Options included 10" and 20" raised crew areas, seating for 4, 6, 8, or 10 people, a top mounted pump panel inside the cab, and others in almost any combination. On heavy rescue units, a walk-through passageway could be built between the cab and body. Early Lances had a grid-style grill. In 1988, this was changed to heavy horizontal bars in the grill. Another new grill arrived around 1990. It was the same grill used on the Dash and D-8000, with the Pierce oval built into the top bar. It was short lived and soon the oval disappeared from the grill.

The Lance was discontinued in 1993, having been replaced with the Lance II.
