It was the first tilt-cab and featured a very short turning radius. The motor was located farther forward and a small walkway separated the cab from the body. The motor housing separated the two jump seats. A small rectangular grill was located between the headlights. On very early production models, the large square headlight trim, as seen on early Arrows, was used. The 4 door Dash was brought out in 1990. The motor was pushed even farther forward, separating the driver and officer, and creating a 4-man bench seat in the rear. The roof of the crew area was raised about ten inches. The back doors were on the rear of the cab and opened onto a walkway. This design worked very well with a top mount pump panel. At the same time the grill was changed to a large vertical rectangle with two horizontal dividers. The oval Pierce emblem was integrated into the top bar of the grill for a short time, but soon returned to being a separate piece. Also, an additional vertical rectangular grill was added over each wheel well. A side rear door option was added during 1992 and the door began at the trailing edge of the wheel well.
