The motor was pushed even farther forward, separating the driver and officer, and creating a 4-man bench seat in the rear. The roof of the crew area was raised about ten inches. The back doors were on the rear of the cab and opened onto a walkway. This design worked very well with a top mount pump panel. At the same time the grill was changed to a large vertical rectangle with two horizontal dividers. The oval Pierce emblem was integrated into the top bar of the grill for a short time, but soon returned to being a separate piece. Also, an additional vertical rectangular grill was added over each wheel well. A side rear door option was added during 1992 and the door began at the trailing edge of the wheel well.
